Twenty-Two: A Blackjack Game?
Blackjack traces its history to the 1700's French card game Vingt-et-un, which when translated literally means "twenty and one." So when we play blackjack, we are expecting a total card value of or near 21 to win automatically the game. However, if the cards exceeded by one, are we "busted"?
In blackjack, a bust happens when a hand (which is the cards a player holds) is over 21. There is no chance of winning if it is twenty-two or greater. However, you could always pray that everyone else is in the same scenario as yours. It also possible to have a tie meaning everyone else has the same card total. However, when you bust you automatically lose even if the dealer busts later.
Definitely, it is important to emphasize how to determine whether or not your hand is a bust. One must know the values of his blackjack hand by adding them up. If your hand has a card from 10 to king (meaning 10, jack, queen and king) it is worth 10. Otherwise, if it is a numbered card from 2 to 9, you count their original value. How about an ace? Well, it could be either eleven or one.
Again, let us answer the abovementioned query, "if the cards exceeded by one, are we busted?" By definition of blackjack, surely we are. However, there is a blackjack variant called as switch - the Blackjack Switch.
How is it different from the ordinary blackjack game? Blackjack switch follows the same rules, with some exceptions. A player is given 2 hands, which he can make one hand have a value of twenty-one (or almost). For example, we get an ace, two for the first hand and a queen and a ten on the second. We can switch our "two-card" for a queen or ten so that our first hand will have a blackjack hand.
Another exception would be the "Hit the Soft 17." This means that dealer will take an additional card when his total card value is 17 with an ace counted as eleven. Finally, the so-called "Push 22." Push 22 occurs when the dealer's hand resulted in a twenty-two. By definition, a push is considered a tie. "What will happen next?" It will depend on the casino's house rules. However, in most casinos if a player gets a blackjack the push 22 exception is overridden.
Blackjack Switch appears to be interesting, isn't? The chances of winning the game are high. Just make sure you make the right pair of cards.
